The Rasoiya Street – A Vast Spread of Pure Vegetarian Food in HSR Layout

The Rasoiya Street (TRS) is a pure vegetarian restaurant that serves cuisines from all over the world. This place is truly a multi-cuisine restaurant. I went to this restaurant recently and loved their food and service. TRS also serves Jain food on order. This is a paradise for vegetarians and the menu is really vast for a vegetarian restaurant. I would recommend this place to all my vegetarian friends.

ORDER, TASTE, AND QUALITY:

I ordered Roast Tomato Soup, Crispy Dragon Veg, Dahi Ke Sholey, and Spinach, Olive, Corn Pizza.

Tomato Soup was absolutely yummy! I loved it. It was served with garlic bread, which was delicious. The soup was balanced in flavors and was neither too sweet nor too hot.

Crispy Dragon Veg was the only disappointment at TRS. It’s not that I didn’t like it but it was far off from being called as Crispy Dragon Veg. It was actually vegetable pakoras and that’s it! Nothing much to it for being called as a Chinese food or even close to it. There was no Schezwan sauce or any Chinese flavor added to it as claimed in the description from their menu. They need to make it better for sure.

Dahi Ke Sholey was superb! It was perhaps one of the best Dahi Ke Sholey I had and definitely the best in Bangalore that I got to taste. It was not at all greasy or oily, which is a big differentiator. The Kabab was succulent and flavourful. The taste of hung curd stuffed in it was delicious.

They have a wood-fired oven which can be seen near the entrance. So, I was excited to see how they make thin crust pizzas there. The Spinach, Corn, and Olive pizza was good in taste and quality. It was loaded with a generous amount of cheese. It was an authentic thin crust pizza of 10 inches. Although the taste was good, and I liked it, they should have added more spinach to it. There was hardly any spinach seen in the pizza and because of this, I couldn’t call it a spinach pizza. I think they need to fix these inconsistencies in the name or description seen in their menu against the ones actually prepared.

SERVICE AND AMBIENCE:

Service was very good, and the staff is polite and courteous. They served us well and I appreciate the service.

The ambiance was also good with nice decor on the walls and various comfortable seating options. I liked the ambiance. However, one downside is that they don’t have sufficient ventilation or airiness inside. The air conditioners they have are not sufficient to cover that large space and the space becomes quite hot in this summer time. They have pedestal fans but even then, I felt quite warm inside because it rotates to and fro and you don’t feel the breeze throughout.

Mobydick – A Multi-Cuisine Restaurant in Koramangala, Bangalore

Mobydick, a restaurant located at a prime location in Koramangala, Bangalore is truly a multi-cuisine restaurant that serves delicious food from all popular cuisines. The reason I emphasized on the multi-cuisine term is because they have a variety of food and drinks in their menu, from the local favourite, Nati specialities to Pan Asian, Bengali cuisine to Italian food, and American to English. Everything is served under one roof and the food is just superb in taste and quality!

Because, I went with a group of friends, I had an opportunity to taste most of the items from their menu and almost everything was great in taste and a few were above average, if not very good. In fact, their mocktails and some of the dishes left me awestruck!

I am wondering why I didn’t visit this place earlier. They have an edge over the competitors with their pricing, which is a bit on the lower side thereby, making them a reasonably priced restaurant in the restaurant hub of Bangalore.

ORDER

I started off my food explorations at Mobydick with their signature drinks. I tried their Melted Brownie Hot Chocolate, Chilli Guava, Strawberry Lemonade, Blue Ice Crusher, Orange Lemonade, Red Velvet Shake, Iced Tiramisu Shake, Lemon Ice Tea, and Peach Ice Tea.

In starters, I had their Barbeque Chicken Wings, Kasundi Fish, Double Pepper Lamb, Mac n Cheese Samosa, and Garlic bread.

In main course, I tried the Nati Chicken Curry with Rice, Philly Cheese Steak Burger, BBQ Chicken Steak, Grilled Lamb Steak, Indonesian Curry Noodles, Black Pepper Fettuccine Pasta with Wild Mushrooms, and Thai Green Veg Curry.

They have a good variety of desserts in their menu, I tasted the Salted Caramel Cheesecake, Sizzling Brownie, and Tiramisu.

TASTE AND QUALITY

I have recently developed the taste and love for hot chocolates and so, I couldn’t resist myself from tasting it, whenever I get a chance. As it was in Mobydick’s menu, I tried the Melted Brownie Hot Chocolate and was amazed to see that they made it so perfect. It was very tasty and I enjoyed it.

Chilli Guava is a must-try beverage at this restaurant. It tasted somewhat similar to a Virgin Guava Mary mocktail, however the hotness of the chillies in it was not very high and in control so that you actually enjoy it while drinking. The aroma of Guava and a hint of chilli flavour was amazing! The glass had the red chilli powder coating on the edges, so you get an absolutely lip-smacking taste and a wonderful flavour altogether.

Strawberry Lemonade was another special drink that they have in their menu. The taste of fresh strawberries and lemon juice is a delightful combination. It was really refreshing and another must-have drink at Mobydick.

Orange Lemonade, Blue Ice Crusher, Lemon Ice Tea, and Peach Ice Tea were refreshing, and I liked it. Along with food, it was a nice combination to sip these drinks.

When I ordered the Red Velvet Shake and Iced Tiramisu Shake, I was speculating about the taste and quality of the beverages. As I love the taste of Red Velvet cake and Tiramisu, so I knew that if they make it well, it would be delightful experience to enjoy my drinks. So, no wonder that they made it really well and my expectations from them were absolutely correct. I loved both the drinks and would recommend them.

Barbeque Chicken Wings was delicious and cooked to perfection. It’s a worth trying it at Mobydick. The sauce was good and flavourful. I’m a fan of Chicken Wings and this is definitely a good one, the taste was slightly sweet and smoky.

Kasundi Fish was pleasing to the eye and tongue. It’s a Bengali-style Basa fish starter, which had the essence of Kasundi, which is a Bengali mustard sauce. I really like Kasundi and its pungent flavour, so it’s always there in my kitchen. I had high expectations from this dish, and it lived up to its name. Although, the flavour and aroma of mustard is there in it, but it doesn’t overpower the fish and doesn’t make it pungent, which is good as you get the taste of fish as well.

Double Pepper Lamb was hot and spicy! Recommended for people who love to eat spicy. But it’s not all, it has all the flavours and ingredients to justify its name. The mutton was tender and well cooked.

Mac n Cheese Samosa was appetizing! I loved the taste and the quality was also good. The stuffing inside was superb and made it a good to try item in starters from the menu.

Garlic Bread was absolutely lip-smacking, and its presentation was enticing. It was served like a pizza and I liked it. This is definitely an innovative way to present such a simple dish.

Nati Chicken Curry with Rice was slightly above average in taste. Although, they tried to make it the way it is supposed to be, and the authenticity was there to a good extent, but some chances of improvements are there. Perhaps, this is not a bad option as you get to taste the local cuisine at a cozy place that serves almost everything.

Philly Cheese Steak Burger was scrumptious. I liked it and the overall quality was good.

BBQ Chicken Steak was yummy, and it was served with garlic breads and salad. The chicken was well cooked, tender, and tasted very well. I liked the way they had presented the steak.

Grilled Lamb Steak was not impressive and although, the presentation was really good, I didn’t like the taste much.

Indonesian Curry Noodles was delightful, and I enjoyed having it. It was just perfect; the flavours and aroma were authentic, and the taste was too good.

Fettuccine is my favourite type of pasta and I always crave for it. It’s not easily available at every other restaurant so whenever I get a chance of having it, I make sure that I don’t miss it. Having said that, I found that Mobydick had Black Pepper Fettuccine Pasta with Wild Mushrooms in their menu, so I decided to try it. It was creamy and cheesy, too good to resist and an absolutely drool-worthy preparation. I loved the taste and quality and would recommend having it at this restaurant.

I am also a Thai food lover and have tried the authentic Thai food during my trip to Thailand. Some of the popular Thai recipes are already a part of Mobydick’s kitchen, so I wanted to try out something. Keeping this in mind, I ordered their Thai Green Veg Curry. The aroma was mouth-watering, and the taste was too good. It was a scrumptious and authentic preparation. I would call it as a must-try item at Mobydick.

Salted Caramel Cheesecake was a scrummy dessert that I had at Mobydick. It was fluffy, palatable, and its texture was perfect for a cheesecake.

Sizzling Brownie with Ice Cream was absolutely yummy. It came in the sizzler tray, and the brownie was sizzling and hot to justify its name. The Ice Cream, which was melting all over the brownie made it a really tasty preparation. I loved the taste and presentation.

Tiramisu was another favourite dessert that looked tempting and was toothsome.

AMBIENCE AND SERVICE

Ambience is classy with nice décor. They have two floors and ample seating area to accommodate a group of friends or big families. The setup is done nicely like a café with medium lighting that is neither too bright nor too dim.

Service was pleasant and prompt, they prepared everything quickly and served with a smile. The staff is polite and courteous, they also ensured that our experience is a good one.

Don’t Miss: Roast & Grill Food Festival at Nook till 25th January

Aloft hotel at Cessna Business Park, Bengaluru hosts special food festivals from time-to-time. This is a hotel chain which focuses a lot on food variety, quality, and taste. The menu keeps changing to offer all sorts of cuisines to its customers. Nook is a high-class restaurant located inside Aloft, Cessna Business Park. The executive chef and the hotel staff makes sure that we have a pleasant experience with the food and service.

I had been to Nook a few times before to attend their Bohri food festival, cake mixing, and many such events. This time, the hotel invited me to attend the Roast & Grill food festival, which is going on from 15th till 25th January. This is a not-to-be-missed food festival as they have all sorts of grilled dishes in the menu, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian.

For a food lover, it’s a delight to be attend this food festival. The buffet spread is vast and although, it’s a Roast & Grill festival, it’s not just about the roasted items, they also have delicious starters, main course, and yummy desserts! I am absolutely a fan of their desserts.

My personal favourites from this festival are Grilled Fishes, Grilled Prawns, Roasted Paneer, and Lamb Chops. The Spinach Roll and Grilled Broccoli is also worth mentioning. In main course, Murg Musallam and Mutton Roagn Josh is a must-try. In desserts, everything is great, but my favourites are Firni and chocolate cake.

The service staff, PR, executive chef, and everyone is very polite and courteous, and they leave no stone unturned to make it a memorable dining experience for their customers. The ambience is really classy with superb décor. This is a place to enjoy the food and have a leisure time. The seating is comfortable, and you get a choice where you want to sit. This is absolutely one of the best fine-dine restaurant in Bangalore where you get scrumptious food and delectable cocktails and sangrias.

Sultans of Spice – A Sultani Gastronomic Delight!

Sultans of Spice is located on the 4th floor of Hotel BluePetal, which also has another famous buffet restaurant, Buff Buffet Buff. Sultans of Spice is a restaurant, which specializes in North Indian food, particularly Delhi, Punjabi, and Afghani food. This place serves buffet during lunch hours and ala carte during dinner. While I am a regular customer at Buff Buffet Buffet, I heard a lot about Sultans of Spice and wanted to try this restaurant since long. The restaurant is located at a prime location on Jyoti Nivas College road in Koramangala.

I went there with my blogger/reviewer friends on a food-tasting invite. As I entered inside, I noticed that this place has a superb ambience and excellent décor that matches with the concept very well. We were greeted very well, and the staff showed us the seating area. Meanwhile, Mr. Manoj, who is the Hotel Manager and his staff came to meet us. They told us about the concept of this restaurant and the kind of food items they serve. The staff is polite and extremely courteous!

ORDER, TASTE, AND QUALITY:

DRINKS:

I started ordering with the drinks. They have a good collection of cocktails and also, they have some excellent signature drinks. So, we ordered 7 Wonders Of The Bar, Watta ! Melon, and Green Appletini.

While 7 Wonders of The Bar includes 7 different alcohols with lime juice and ice, it is also the strongest cocktail among others. It’s their signature drink and tastes good. A suggestion is to add more ice to make the proportions right to improve the drinkability of this special drink.

Watta ! Melon is also their special cocktail, served in a highball glass and prepared with watermelon chunks, lime juice, melon syrup, and Gin. It is the most refreshing drink I had in the recent past! Absolutely mind-blowing and refreshing, it was also on a lighter side and I could hardly feel any bitterness, which was good.

Green Appletini is equally refreshing as Watta ! Melon. I really enjoyed it. As the name suggests, it was made with Vodka and Green Apple syrup. It was served in a cocktail glass and had a perfect combination of alcohol and syrup.

This restaurant also has a good collection of mocktails, which we couldn’t try this time.

SOUPS:

I tried their Badam Aur Murg Ka Shorba and Dal Subz Shorba.

While Badam Aur Murg Ka Shorba sounds good, it lacked some essential flavours. Although, it had grated almonds added to it, I couldn’t identify any taste of Chicken or Almonds in it. It was just bland and salty.

The Dal Subz Shorba was delectable!

STARTERS:

In starters, I had Dumwala Old Monk Chicken Wings, Murg Taftan, Makai Aur Cheese Ke Kebab, Galouti Kabab, Prawn Lollypop, Amritsari Bharwan Taang, Chatpata Paneer Roll, Triple Seekh Kebab, and Chicken Malai Tikka.

I will give full marks to the Chef for bringing innovation in the menu items. I could really see the hard work to make the regular food items different from others. Dumwala Old Monk Chicken Wings is a signature item, in which the chicken wings are flamed with Old Monk to give a unique bitter and sweet taste. Absolutely innovative!

Amritsari Bharwan Taang was amazing! The chicken leg pieces were stuffed with mutton keema to make it a wholesome experience. This is a splendid combination and worked well.

Chicken Malai Tikka was probably the best I had ever in Bangalore. I remember having such Malai Tikka in New Delhi. It was authentic and delicious. The chicken pieces were tender and succulent.

Prawn Lollypop is also an innovative item where garlic and chilly flavoured minced prawn is served on a small sugarcane stick. It was yummy, and I liked the concept. However, the staff should bring this out more clearly that it is not a regular stick but a sugarcane stick.

Makai Aur Cheese Ke Kebab had the perfect combination of cheese and corn. It was good.

Galouti Kabab was OK and it was close to the authentic recipe of Lucknow. I don’t compare it with the ones available in Lucknow but for Bangalore, it is probably one of the best Galouti Kabab. It didn’t melt completely in mouth unlike the authentic Galouti Kabab, still it was appetizing.

All other starters that I had were delicious.

MAIN COURSE:

In main course, I had Dal Sultani, Butter Chicken, Sarso Da Saag, Nalli Gosht, Sultani Kofta, and breads, which had Garlic Naan, Makke Di Roti, and Tandoori Roti. I am fond of the main course at Buff Buffet Buff and I had the same expectation here. I am happy that BluePetal didn’t disappoint me. They are famous for serving the main course as good as the starters, which is to an extent less seen.

Dal Sultani was excellent in taste and quality. I enjoyed it to the fullest. Butter Chicken was delicious as well. Sarso Sa Saag was an authentic Punjabi preparation, and very close to what you get in the Punjabi families. It was good in taste and reminded me of my visits to Punjab.

Nalli Gosht was scrumptious and I relished it. Being a Non-Vegetarian, I still liked their Sultani Kofta the most! It is a lip-smacking delicacy by the Chef. I really enjoyed the Kofta and its gravy.

DESSERTS:

In desserts we witnessed a lot of uniqueness and innovation again. I had Gulabo and Gajar Halwa Ki  Seekh.

Gulabo is basically Rose Phirni, flavoured by Rooh Afza kind of syrup. It was yummy! I absolutely loved it. Gajar Halwa Ki Seekh is a unique dessert, which I haven’t seen anywhere. It’s chef’s own creation. It’s prepared by making a kind of dry Gajar ka Halwa and put it on the skewers to grill it in tandoor. Yes, you read it correctly, they grill the Halwa and it’s presented like a seekh kebab. Amazing creation! By the way, it tasted really good.

SERVICE AND AMBIENCE:

The staff is courteous and polite. They have a high-level of service and they leave no stone unturned to make your experience, a great one.

Ambience is classy, and they have an excellent décor. They also have separate areas with curtains for candle light dinners.

Awadhi Food at The Moghul’s, HSR Layout

The Moghul’s restaurant is located at a prime area of HSR. One fine evening, I was passing through the road when I saw this restaurant, which claims to serve the Awadhi cuisine of the North Indian city of Lucknow. I hail from Allahabad city, which is near Lucknow, and Awadhi food is very popular in that region. So, I am an Awadhi food lover and I hardly find good places in Bangalore for this cuisine. So, I stopped by and decided to have an early dinner here.

ORDER, FOOD, AND QUALITY:
In starters, we ordered Galawati Kabab and for main course, Lucknowi murg masala, ulte tawe ka paratha, Lucknowi dum murg biryani and lime soda.
The waiting time here is terrible and spoiled our mood completely. It was just about 7:30 PM with hardly many customers in the restaurant still it took them more than half an hour to serve just the Lucknowi chicken dum biryani.
We had ordered only one item at a time and the first order was biryani. At one point, we decided to move on as it was a waste of time for us, but the staff asked us to wait as the order was getting ready.
Anyways, after a long wait when the biryani came, it really missed the essential flavour and aroma of Awadhi biryani. I know that an Awadhi biryani is light and less spicy, but it doesn’t lack the necessary flavours and aroma. I have had Awadhi biryani so many times since my childhood at my hometown in UP. But this one was more of a pulav than an Awadhi biryani. If you consume it considering it as a pulav then it was light and edible. No complaints there.


Our next order was Lucknowi murg masala and ulte tawe ka paratha. This order came in just about 5-10 minutes, which was good.
Lucknowi murg masala again disappointed me and it had an overdose of coriander seeds in its flavour. It was just average in taste, not too bad but definitely nothing special. But, it was a good change from the regular chicken gravy that we get in North Indian restaurants of Bangalore.
Ulte tawe ka paratha was too good! It was authentic, delicious, and melted in mouth! I’ve never had such delectable ulte tawe ka paratha before.


Our next order was Galawati Kabab and lime soda. Galawati kabab was delicious! It was cooked to perfection! It was tender and melted in mouth, which is an essential characteristic of this Awadhi dish. I enjoyed it and it resembled closely in taste to the authentic one from Lucknow. In Bangalore, this is perhaps one of the best you can have.
Lime soda was as usual in taste.


Overall, it’s a good place to try the authentic Galawati kabab with ulte tawe ka paratha.

SERVICE AND AMBIENCE:
The ambience at this restaurant is although airy and open, which connects you to the surroundings and nature however, it also makes it difficult to dine when it’s cold outside.
There were some insects because of the open dining area and garden. A suggestion is to make the dining area covered with transparent glasses so that the connection to greenery and nature remains intact, while it will prevent the insects and cold air from outside.
Service was too slow for the quality of food served.

The Brew and Barbeque – Quality Brews, Signature Cocktails, and Delectable Food

Nice microbrewery! Good food and quality! Amazing in-house beers and cocktails!

The Brew and Barbeque is a popular microbrewery and a multi-cuisine restaurant located on the 4th floor of the Soul Space Arena mall on the Outer Ring Road. The location adds a big plus point to it. It’s a huge place with cozy ambience, suitable for partying and social gatherings. Because they have ample seating space spread out in a huge area, you won’t feel like being in an overcrowded place with people waiting for you to vacate the table. Thus, you enjoy the food and drinks at your own leisure.

I visited this place on an invite to attend the 86th Food Bloggers Association, Bangalore (FBAB) meetup.

ORDER, TASTE, AND QUALITY:

They have full bar menu with some signature cocktails, mocktails and craft beers. The food menu is extensive as well with almost all popular cuisines included it.

DRINKS:

BEERS: We tried their craft beers, which included American Pale Ale, Red Indian Ale, and Hafeweizen. The American Pale Ale was hoppy in taste so kinda bitter, which is OK if you like it that way. Red Indian Ale was smooth and easy on the tongue. Hafeweizen is a wheat beer, which is a bit stronger but very good and smooth in taste. This is my favourite!

COCKTAILS: I tried BellandurOverflow, Pina Colada, and Long Island Ice Tea (L.I.I.T). All the cocktails were really good in taste. L.I.I.T and Pina Colada are popular cocktails and were made exactly the way it should be. BellandurOverflow is their special signature cocktail, subtle flavoured and superb! A must-try one if you are there.

STARTERS:

In starters, we tried Corn Cheeze Cutlet, Chicken Hariyali Tikka, Chicken Wings, Golden Fried Corn, Butter Garlic Prawns, Tandoori Prawns, Chilli Fish, Guntur Chicken, Wonton, Malai Paneer Tikka, and Hot and Spicy Mushrooms. All items were delicious, and my favourites are Chicken Wings and Chilli Fish. Absolutely delectable! 😊

MAIN COURSE:

For main course, we ordered Butter Chicken, Thin Crust Pizzas, Veg Sizzler, Donne Biryani, Chicken Dum Biryani, and Tandoori Roti. All of their Thin Crust Pizzas are lip-smacking! 😊 A must-try item for main course. Butter Chicken and Dum Biryani were OK in taste. Veg Sizzler and Donne Biryani didn’t impress me.

DESSERTS:

In desserts, we had Choco Lava Cake, Apple Pie, Lemon Cheesecake, and Chocolate Tart. Choco Lava Cake was yummy and my favourite.

SERVICE AND AMBIENCE:

Ambience is classy, you can relax and enjoy the music being played. Also, there is ample space to park your vehicle in the mall’s parking area. You can enjoy and spend some good time with friends and family. Service staff is courteous, but the service is very slow even during the off-peak hours. They should improve upon this aspect.  Overall, it’s a good place for their signature beers, cocktails, and delectable food.

Vintage Shack, HSR – Fine Dining Experience at a Reasonable Cost

We were looking for some North Indian food in HSR Layout and we found Vintage Shack on Zomato. This restaurant proved to be hidden gem for a great fine dining experience! They serve Indian and Continental cuisines. We enjoyed the food, which is authentic and delicious. The service is excellent as the staff is very courteous. The restaurant has a superb ambience and it’s a cozy place to dine!

I recommend this restaurant for North Indian food and looking forward to trying their other menu items including the continental dishes.

ORDER, TASTE, AND QUALITY:

As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted with a smile by the staff and they showed us various seats to choose from. We chose the one next to the large glass that offers a street view. Then came the menu, which is unique in look and justifies their concept of “shack”.

We ordered Murg Makhani with Lasooni Naan and Butter Kulcha. They served the food quickly within 10 minutes of ordering.

Murg Makhani was delicious and aromatic! It had the perfect flavours in its buttery gravy, which was thick in texture and mild sweet in taste. They portion had four medium-sized chicken pieces served in a small bowl, which is good enough for 1 individual only and can be shared by 2 light eaters as well. As we were not very hungry, so it was sufficient in our case otherwise, it would be less. This is the only downside, the portions are less for the price you pay.  The chicken tasted fresh and it was good in quality.

As the name suggests, Lasooni Naan had tiny garlic pieces on top of it. It’s not the best garlic naan I had but it was enticing and delectable.

Butter Kulcha was also palatable but not something different. In fact, there is no need to be different.

SERVICE AND AMBIENCE:

Service is one of the highlights of this restaurant. The staff is very courteous and well trained. Ambience is classy with nice décor. Overall, it’s a nice place to have a fine dining experience. The pricing is reasonable too.

Punjabi Food at The Punjabi Rasoi, HSR

After reading some reviews and a personal recommendation from a close friend, we decided to dine at The Punjabi Rasoi. We went there with high expectations of taste and quality. However, our experience was not as expected! It was a let down and we are disappointed!

The restaurant is located at a prime location and it was crowded, which strengthened our belief that we are going to enjoy a great fine-dining experience. So, we waited for a while and soon we got the table.

ORDER, TASTE, AND QUALITY:

In starters, we ordered Chicken Chaat, which they’ve mentioned as their speciality. Later, for main course we ordered Chicken Punjabi, which they’ve mentioned as spicy with a red chilly tag next to it their menu. In breads, we ordered Amritsari Kulcha, and Butter Kulcha.

A big disappointment was that they gave us Chicken Achaari instead of Chicken Chaat and not only that they insisted to make us believe that it is Chicken Chaat only.

When the service staff was serving it, he initially said “here is your Chicken Achaari”. I immediately told him that we have ordered Chicken Chaat. To this, he said yes this is “Chicken Chaat”. What nonsense! How can both the dishes be the same and it did not even look like or tasted anything like a chaat.

When we tasted it, it was Chicken Achaari with pickle oil and spices! Later, I showed it to another service staff and asked what dish is it, he also told us that this is Chicken Achari. If they did not have Chicken Chaat in stock, they should have informed us, and we would have ordered something else. We did not even order the starters and main course together, we ordered them separately, then how can they do such a blunder.

Anyways, Chicken Achaari was spicy and good in taste. It was nothing special just the usual Pickle oil and spices along with roasted chicken. This is not something to my taste, but it was an authentic preparation and people who like spicy pickle sauce, will like it. The quality of chicken was definitely good.

Utter disappointment was their Chicken Punjabi gravy dish. As they’ve mentioned it as spicy with a red chilly tag next to it their menu, we chose this one and confirmed with the service staff. The service person also said that it is very spicy and if we want to lower down the spice level to medium spicy, they can customize it. We wanted something hot and spicy, so I told them not to customize it and serve the original dish how they make it.

When it arrived, the “so called” spicy and hot preparation was slightly sweet taste! I think the slight sweetness was because of the tomato-based gravy and understood that they might not have added anything extra to make it mild sweet. The spice level was also below medium, and although the preparation was again not bad in taste, but this is not what I wanted, or they told earlier. If I wanted a slight sweet and mild-spiced gravy, I could’ve ordered Butter Chicken or maybe Malai Kofta in Vegetarian.

SERVICE, AMBIENCE, AND CONCLUSION:

I believe that the service staff is a big reason for my disappointment. As per my experience at this restaurant, I think the person who served us is not well-trained and lacks knowledge about the menu and the nature of dishes they serve. He also took the order wrongly and served me something else. He needs to improve upon his listening skills.

It was our first visit to this restaurant and unfortunately, it didn’t go well. The restaurant seems to have great potential and they could have definitely served us in a better way. I don’t know if that was just one bad day for the service person or if he is the only odd one among many good and well-trained ones.

Ambience of this restaurant is really good with nice interiors and furniture.

Legendary Indian Coffee House, Church Street

I am a big fan of the legendary Indian Coffee House (ICH) chain that has its presence in all major cities of India. ICH has a glorious history and once it was considered an iconic place to have coffee and indulge in a discussion with friends for hours.

It was such a place where people used to come and attend meetings to discuss all sorts of political or social issues. Many notable and prominent political personalities of the past had visited the ICH restaurants and discussed the future strategies.

It’s said that the restaurant in Delhi, Connaught Place is the place where strategies were made by the opposition during the Indian emergency. This particular restaurant is also close to my heart as I was a regular customer and I met my wife and her family for the first time here. The one in Allahabad is also known to have witnessed regular visits by top politicians and notable literary people of the country in the bygone era.

ICH still has the good old and its very own culture that nobody asks the reason for sitting and discussing political issues or college chats for hours while having just a cup of coffee or sometimes maybe not even ordering anything. No one interferes in the discussions and arguments going on.

Over the decades, ICH has become a place for the common people and the elderly or sometimes college students as well. The food is really inexpensive, but the taste and quality has always been good. This place is good for breakfast.

On Zomato, I have already reviewed almost all the Indian Coffee House restaurants that I had visited in various cities. The first ICH restaurant that I visited during my childhood days was the legendary ICH restaurant in my own city of Allahabad. This was followed by visits to ICH restaurants in Jaipur, New Delhi, Bhopal, and the two restaurants in Bangalore.

In Bangalore, while the restaurant in Koramangala is new and looks classy with nice interiors and ambience, the restaurant in Church Street is the old restaurant, which looks similar to the other ICH restaurants and has the similar ambience that is very minimal and basic.

ICH, Koramangala is like a flagship restaurant of the ICH chain, which is far ahead in terms of ambience and has a huge list of items in its menu. However, the usual breakfast items remain the same in both the restaurants.

Last week, my wife and I went to Brigade road and after shopping and roaming around for a while, we decided to visit the Indian Coffee House at Church Street. It was our first visit to this restaurant and we ordered Hot Coffee, Masala Dosa, Bread Toast, Omelette, and Mutton Cutlet.

Hot Coffee was a typical ICH filter coffee, which was a bit strong. Masala Dosa was good in taste but it was served only with coconut chutney. On asking for Sambhar, they told us that it’s served in the morning.

Bread Toast and Omelette were also good in taste and quality. The toast was crispy and roasted with Amul butter. I liked the taste. Mutton Cutlet was yummy! It was fresh and crisp. The taste was awesome.

It’s recommended to visit this restaurant but don’t go there with high expectations of ambience and class. Instead, visit it for the legendary history behind it and the tasty food that it offers.

Filter Coffee and Snacks at Hatti Kaapi, Brigade Road

I wanted to have a cup of coffee and some light snack before exploring the busy market in Brigade Road. When I looked around in search of it, I saw a couple of places and one of them was Hatti Kaapi.

Hatti Kaapi is a popular chain that serves a variety of filter coffee, tea, and snacks. I had earlier visited a few outlets of this chain so I was quite familiar with the brand.

I ordered a Bella (jaggery) coffee, a special coffee, and mini Idli.

Bella coffee was good in taste! It was neither too strong nor very mild. A perfect balance of milk, sugar, and coffee liquor. I felt refreshed after having it.

The special coffee was although good in taste that was similar to the taste of Bella coffee but I didn’t find anything special in it to call it as “special coffee”. What I noticed was that the “special coffee” was a bit on the milder side with perhaps more milk in it.

Now, comes the mini Idli, which is the main highlight of my visit to Hatti Kaapi. They served us about 6-7 tiny Idlis dipped in delicious sambhar. It’s not that the taste was totally out-of-the-world but definitely I didn’t expect this tasty South Indian snack at a coffee shop. It was really good in taste. The small size Idlis looked yummy!

It’s a pocket-friendly chain and a medium sized cup of special or jaggery coffee costs just Rs. 50. The range starts at Rs. 30. for a small cup. They have multiple joints in Bangalore so it’s easy to locate a nearby joint.

They are quick in service and the staff is courteous. But there is no seating available at Hatti Kaapi. So, it isn’t a place to sit and relax while having coffee. I didn’t mind this because I was in hurry and just wanted to have something quickly.
